Seniors Nutrition Program

The Seniors Nutrition Program provides hot nutritious meals at 30 dining centers to seniors 60 years of age and older. In addition to the hot meals, the program offers the opportunity for individuals to socialize and take advantage of educational, informational, and outreach services. In 2007 over 4000 Colorado seniors were able to participate in this essential program. Hot, nutritious meals are cooked at the Michael J. Kern Kitchen and delivered throughout Denver and to neighboring counties. Donations are accepted but no guest is turned away based on their economic situation.

Volunteers of America Meals on Wheels

Nutritious home-delivered meals for homebound older adults 60 years of age or older who live in Adams, Arapahoe, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, Gilpin or Jefferson county. No one is denied service due to an inability to contribute toward the cost of the meals. Seniors receive daily hot meals or frozen meals for the coming week.

More than 50% of the seniors receiving Meals on Wheels will rely on this delivery as their one and only complete daily meal. Additionally, the seniors receiving Meals on Wheels are often isolated and their daily visit from the Meals on Wheels volunteer may constitute their only daily human contact. Seniors regularly experience an improvement in physical well-being and have an enhanced ability and willingness to remain in their own home as a result of these program services.
